Lahaina Canoe Club Presents 39th Pau Hana Industry Races

Lahaina Canoe Club welcomes all Maui businesses to participate in its annual fundraiser, The 38th Annual Pua Hana Industry Races. Crews will compete in 1⁄4 mile outrigger regatta style race with the winner of each division claiming the coveted company emblazoned paddle trophy. Formerly known as the Restaurant Races, the club has re-branded its largest fundraiser to include any business. Be it a large resort or surf shop on Front Street, all businesses are invited to participate in a day of fun competition and team building with a touch of culture.

Entry Fees

  • 1 – 2 crews: $150 each, 3 or more crews are $125 each
  • King and Queen of Beach Race: $25
  • Fees must be paid before the races. Please bring check payable to Lahaina Canoe Club

Awards

Winners get a beautiful trophy paddle to hang in the place of business for a year! (except King/Queen, they get haku & lei)

Details

  • Lahaina Canoe Club will supply the canoes, the steersman, and paddles for each race
  • Wooden paddles will not be allowed except by steers-people
  • Steers-people will be selected at random; no changes allowed
  • Businesses will supply a five person crew for each race, except Manager’s Open 4 (which will need 4 managers)
  • Race course: approx. 1⁄4 mile, flag to flag, no turns

Divisions

  • Novice Wahine / Novice Kane: (Novice girls & boys) Any person who has not participated in any sanctioned Maui County Hawaiian Canoe Racing Assoc. or Hawaiian Canoe Racing Assoc. canoe race, regatta or ‘long distance’ season
  • Novice Hui: (Novice Mix) Consists of at least two female paddlers (of 5) who have not participated in any sanctioned Maui County Hawaiian Canoe Racing Assoc. or Hawaiian Canoe Racing Assoc. canoe race, regatta or ‘long distance’ season.
  • Manager Hui 4: One (1) manager required for this race! Remainder of crew of your choice with at least one (1) female paddler, manager must seat 1
  • Master Hui / Master Wahine / Master Kane (Mix & Masters): Experienced men and women paddlers, or whoever has what it takes. Master Hui must have 2 women
  • Ke Ali’i / Ali’i Wahine o ke Kahakai (King / Queen of Beach) — 1-person canoe pull with steersman — —At least 4 Studs & Studettes for this– —multiple pull-offs if more than 8 entries –

Note: Additional heats if more than 5 canoes in a division. Top 3 canoes advance to the championship.

  •  Racing begins approximately 10a.m, please have crews ready.
  • Parking is available at Hanakao’o and surrounding beach parks.

FOOD AND REFRESHMENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE FROM 10AM UNTIL 3PM

Remember this is a fundraiser for Lahaina Canoe Club so please refrain from bringing company food. Food trucks will be on location and beverages will be available. Your help in this matter will go a long way to making this a successful fund raising event.
